Rescue Me ID: 18-02-12-00406Oscar (male)

American Shorthair Mix    Age: Senior

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hello, everyone! My name is Oscar and I would like to introduce myself. I am a very handsome all-gray, neutered cat, with gold eyes, and I weigh about 12 pounds. I just arrived at the Safe Place for Pets Welcome Center. Even though it is comfortable, and the room service and housekeeping staff (aka cattery volunteer team) is great, my being here means that I need a new furever home. I sadly lost my dad last fall, and his daughter and son-in-law were not able to keep me because of the daughter's cat allergy. All of us were very disappointed, but they did the next best thing to help me find that new special someone by bringing me here. When ... (Read More)my dad and I were still together, I enjoyed being outside during the day and visiting with the neighbors. I always came inside at night and really loved just being close to my dad and sitting in his lap as much as possible. I am a very playful guy, even for a 13-year-old, and really get excited about chasing strings, shoelaces, and cords'|look out if you have drawstring cords on a sweatshirt hood! At the end of the day, I liked to sleep curled up on the bed close to my dad. Since my dad has passed away, I have adjusted quite well to being indoor-only. If there is a window to sit in to watch the world, I'm good. Since I tend to be shy and wary in new situations, I am taking my time settling in at the Welcome Center. So far, I am doing OK with the other cats living there, and I have not had to use my claws or growl vigorously at them, but I have uttered a low rumble to let them know that I am not so sure about them just yet. The cattery volunteers are very nice, and I am looking forward to getting to know them and enjoying their attention. An even better option is to meet you to see if we might be a good fit for each other. You can visit me by calling Safe Place for Pets at 719-359-0201 or submitting a pet inquiry at www.safeplacepets.org. I hope to see you soon! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 18-02-12-00391Nunu (female)

Boxer Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hello, my name is Nunu and I am a big, sweet girl in need of a new forever home!! Life has been very confusing for me lately because my mom got sick and went to the hospital; then I was left alone (luckily my owner's daughter came by to feed me and spend time with me a few times a day); and since my mom passed away, I'm now in a 'foster home' and I've been living here for a couple of weeks now. I am a 7 year old female/spayed Boxer mix and I'm big and strong at 80 lbs, but my foster is working with me to get me down to about 65-70 lbs. My foster mom is so impressed with my intelligence and adaptability -- after living my entire life with ... (Read More)my mom, I'm doing great in my foster home. I am now with two other large dogs and I get along with them so well! I've been good about eating near them with no issues and I learned to use the doggy door very quickly. I have over an acre to run and play on now and I love it! I will bark when I see cars driving down the road or if there are rabbits, squirrels, etc., but I am quiet inside the house. Though there are no children in my foster home, I was very patient and accommodating with my owner's 3 year old grandson and a cat that used to live with us. I am not destructive in the house and really am pretty relaxed most of the time! I'm not really a lap dog, but I do like to cuddle! I like car rides and have been to the dog park and think it's lots of fun, but I'm also a couch potato and am happy to be at home with my person/family. I have a red Kong toy that I love - especially when my mom would put peanut butter in it - who doesn't like that?!?! I have lived mostly with women and children in my life so you might say I prefer them, but I warm up pretty quickly to men who do not yell or act angry. I have a very sensitive spirit and I need a gentle, peaceful family and environment because I have tried to protect my family in the past and the Safe Place for Pets folks feel I shouldn't live somewhere that I have to be 'on guard' and need to be protective. If you are a relaxed, loving, peaceful person or family that is interested in meeting me and seeing what a sweetheart I am, please call Safe Place for Pets at 719-359-0201 or submit a pet inquiry about me at www.safeplacepets.org. I am happy in my foster home, but will be even happier in my forever home!! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 18-01-29-00175Gus-Gus (male)

Domestic Cat    Age: Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi, my name is Gus-Gus. I am a beautiful 8-year-old male neutered gray domestic medium-long-haired fellow. I am an indoor-only cat, which is absolutely necessary because I have been declawed. Wouldn't it be horrible if I were outside and something attacked me? I'd be helpless! To tell you something about myself, unlike most cats at Safe Place for Pets, I am not a Colorado native. Yes, I have to admit that I'm another transplant. I really hope you won't hold that against me though. I came here from sunny California two years ago with my prior mom. I was with her ever since I was a kitten, when she adopted me after someone abandoned me at ... (Read More)the veterinary office where she worked. Don't ask me how someone could do that; I'll never know. Anyway, she named me Gus-Gus, maybe because I was small and gray. I'm told that Gus-Gus was the name of a mouse in the Walt Disney movie Cinderella. I'm no small mouse now, I can tell you that! I'm a strapping 15.14-pound guy, and a few years ago I was over 17 pounds. I guess you could say that I like to eat. The vet put me on a diet - the meany! - so now I've slimmed down some. But you can see from my pictures how handsome I am. As far as my personality goes, I have to say that you have to have some patience with me. After living alone most of my life with my prior mom, I'm not really accustomed to being around people. So it may take me a while to warm up to you. I was with mom's sister-in-law from November until just a few days ago, and it took me until just over a week or so ago to start to really trust her enough to be friendly. She really liked me, especially after that, but she has two other older cats and she didn't think that we'd get along too well. Also, she says that although two cats are fine, three is a bit too much. I'm not really a lap cat, but I do like to sit at your feet once I get to know and trust you. I'm not big on toys either, EXCEPT those feathers on a stick that she dangles in front of me! I love to go after those. As a matter of fact, she's had to replace them a few times because I like to shred them. I also like to sit next to the window and watch the birds and squirrels outside the house. I'd really like to find a new forever home where I could settle in and learn to trust and love somebody again. Do you think you might want to come to the Safe Place Welcome Center In Manitou Springs and meet me? All you have to do is call 719-359-0201 or go to the Safe Place website at safeplacepets.org to make an appointment. As I said, it can take me a while to warm up, but I promise that if you're patient with me you won't regret it! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 18-01-25-00093Chappy (male)

Domestic Cat    Age: Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi, my name is Chappy. I know that it's kind of an odd name, but I got it because my mom's husband's name was Chapman, so she kind of named me after him. In any case, I am a 14.12-oz, 7-8 year old male neutered tabby and white Domestic Shorthair with claws. What a mouthful! I've been here at the Safe Place for Pets Welcome Center in Manitou Springs Colorado for a day or so now. I came with my brother Onyx after our mom died last week. It's kind of strange because we were with her for seven years. She didn't really adopt us; we adopted her. She was a great mom and we both loved her. We're indoor/outdoor cats, but we always came in at night ... (Read More)for cuddles and to sleep with her. No one was quite sure what would happen to us after Mom died because there was really no place for us to go. But a really good friend of hers decided that we just had to go to good homes, and when she did a search on rescue organizations she found Safe Place for Pets. She even went so far as to pay all our vet bills. He is a friend indeed. I call Onyx my brother because we lived together, but to be honest we weren't that close. He's super outgoing, and I'm more reserved. Don't get me wrong; I like to be petted and scratched as much as any other cat, and I do enjoy playing. I spent the night with the Safe Place for Pets volunteer, and she gave me a catnip mouse to play with. I had a grand time! But I'm more of a quiet guy. I really kind of think that I would like a forever home where I could be the only pet. Then I could have my peace but still get the petting and loving that I crave. I may be a bit slow to warm up, but if you give me a little time I promise that I can be a really loving pal. If you'd like to meet me and see if we might suit each other - and I really hope we would! - you can call Safe Place at (719) 359-0201 or email them at info@safeplacepets.org to make an appointment to come by and see me. I'll be waiting! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-11-13-00360Honeybear (male)

Domestic Cat    Age: Senior

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi, do you need a cuddle? Or maybe a lap warmer? A big fluffy kitty cat to sleep with? Well maybe you ought to take a look at me! My name is Honeybear, and although that may seem like a silly name for an 11-old male neutered cat with claws, it actually suits me. I'm definitely a honey of a guy. I love to be petted and scratched and to snuggle up in your lap and sleep with you. I have to admit that I take up a lot of room though. At almost 15 pounds, I'm a (lovable) bear of a cat. I'm even the right color for a bear - at least a panda bear. As you can see from my picture, I'm a black and white tuxedo cat. So you can see why I say that my ... (Read More)name suits me. I'm at Safe Place for Pets because my mom is dying and as much as they love me, none of her daughters - my sisters? - can take me. It's been kind of a rough several weeks for me. First my mom went away, then my two feline brothers, Peach and Two Spots, left. So I've been alone in Mom's house for the past few weeks. It's been lonely! I don't particularly miss my brothers, although I got along ok with Peach. But I really didn't like Two Spots. I think I'd like a home where I'm the only pet. Then I wouldn't have to compete for human attention, which I adore! By the way, I ought to mention that I also like being around children. My mom's daughter used to bring her grandchildren with her when she visited and they were really nice. I sure would love to find a new forever home where I can have someone to love and - more importantly! - someone to love me. I am a cat after all and that means that I'm all about me. ;-) But I promise that if you love me, I'll love you back. It's a win/win situation! Why don't you come meet me and see just how much of a Honeybear I am? You can make an appointment to come by the Safe Place for Pets Welcome Center by emailing them at info@safeplacepets.org or calling [719] 359-0201. Just tell them that you need some loving from Honeybear! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-10-16-00168Goofy (female)

American Shorthair Mix    Age: Senior

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

** Ask About My Special Adoption Donation ** Hello again, Goofy (or sometimes Goofy Girl) here. It hasn't been too long since I first introduced myself after coming to Safe Place for Pets, and I'd like to tell everyone how much has changed since then! The biggest thing is that I'm not hiding anymore. I've moved from one of the upper story kennels down to one one the ground floor so that I can easily come and go as I wish. That is really great, because whenever one of the Safe Place volunteers comes into the room I come out to get some attention and petting. They say that I have blossomed into a sweet, friendly kitty. I was so frightened ... (Read More)when I first came to the Welcome Center that no one realized what a gem I am. They do now! I also like being able to come and go easily because sometimes I get a little overwhelmed by the the other cats and with my kennel on the ground floor it's a snap for me to scuttle back in and take a nap or have a snack. Finally, now that I'm not scared anymore , I can hop up to the top of the kennels whenever I want. It's about 7 feet off the ground and there are several kitty condos up there where I can snuggle up and watch everything that is going on around me. I never would have believed it when I first got here, but the Welcome Center is a pretty neat place to be, especially considering all the loving that I get. It sure beats being alone in my prior mom's house after they took her away! But I'd still rather be in a forever home where I can have that special someone - or a whole family - who I could love and would love me back. Won't you come by the Welcome Center and meet this Goofy Girl? I'm sure you won't regret it. All you have to do is email Safe Place for Pets at info@safeplacepets.org or call 359-0201 to make an appointment. I'd love to see you - and have you see me! Original Bio: Hello there. My name is Goofy, and I'm a 13-year-old female spayed Domestic Shorthair with claws. I'm a pretty little thing with my gray tabby markings separated by large patches of white with a white face and pink nose. I'm a quiet lady and love nothing more than to sit on my mom's lap or sleep next to her in bed. I'm quieter than ever right now because my whole life has been turned upside down and I'm scared and confused by it all. I knew that my prior mom was sick, but then she got really sick and couldn't get up. It was terrible, and before I knew what was happening, men with big boots and coats broke into my house and took Mom away! And then I was alone in the house for weeks. My mom's daughter, who loves me very much, came by to make sure that I had food and water, but I really didn't feel like eating or drinking. I was just too scared and stressed. They tell me that I'm underweight now, and let me tell you, stress and loneliness are no way for a lady to lose weight! Even now that I'm here at the Safe Place for Pets Welcome Center, I'm still frightened and hide under my prior mom's pillow. I like to be petted, but am too shy to come out to get it. I need a forever home where I can feel safe and loved again. I'm tired of being sad and scared. I told you that my name is Goofy, but I've had several names over the course of my life. My brother, who died a number of years ago, and I came to mom from a friend of hers who found us in a garage that was about to be torn down. She wanted good old-fashioned farm names for us, so she named us Harold and Agatha. Well, Harold eventually became Punk. I became Goose because when I was a kitten I used to like to pounce on my prior mom's daughter's feet, and she called my Silly Goose or Goosey Girl. I was Goose until my Mom went away and the lady from Safe Place for Pets made an appointment for me to go to the vet to get my shots (ycch!) and be checked out. When she made the appointment, the lady at the vet's office misunderstood what she said and wrote my name down as Goof. As it turns out, that was for the best, because there used to be another cat at the Welcome Center named Goose. She was there for a long time before she died of kidney disease, and everyone loved her very, very much. It would have been very hard for them to have a different cat with the same name. So, since Goof sounds a lot like Goose, it seemed like a great idea to call me that, or better yet, Goofy or Goofy Girl. I really don't care what you call me as long as you love me! Won't you please come to the Welcome Center to meet me? You can email Safe Place at info@safeplacepets.org or call (719) 359-0201 to make an appointment to come meet me. I hope you do because I really, really need someone all my own who will cherish me. (Less)

Domestic Cat    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed

Hi, everyone! My name is Cece and I am a new arrival at the Safe Place for Pets Welcome Center, where cats who have lost their families to terminal illness live until new families adopt them. As you can see from my pictures, I am finding my new temporary home to be very comfortable, but I know that I will like a new furever home and family even more! Perhaps once you read about me, you will come by to visit. Let me know you will be stopping by and I will brew a pot of coffee for us to enjoy! Sadly, I lost my mom not too long ago to a terminal illness. She adopted me as a young kitten, but honestly, I think I still am a youngster since I ... (Read More)won't be 2 years old until my birthday in November. I am a very pretty, calico girl, who is spayed and indoor-only. Besides my mom, I lived with a cockapoo and a kitty brother, and I enjoyed their company very much. My mom's son tried to add me to his family, after my siblings were adopted by friends of my mom, but I could not adjust to his German shorthair pointer, a very mellow boy who really was always nice to me. Now I am embarrassed by my bad behavior toward him, but at the time I was just too fearful of his 'giant' size! In my new future home, it would be best if any dogs were no bigger than cockapoo size. Even though I like the company of small dogs and cats, nothing is better than the company of people. I love the attention from the cattery volunteers, and I come running when treats are included. I hope soon I will be able to do the same with you! Contact Safe Place for Pets on the web (safeplacepets.org), by phone (719-359-0201) or email them at info@safeplacepets.org to meet me. I hope to see you soon and I am confident that you won't be disappointed! (Less)

*Ask about my reduced adoption donation* Hi there! My name is Moxie, Sweet Pea. I am a petite black kitty with a few white hairs on my chest, side and back. I am around 2 years old, spade, and still have my claws. I have had one litter of kittens and was a very good first time, young mother. (Kiko is my daughter, in case you are looking for 2 cats.) I am somewhat reserved and will ask for attention when I need it. I am good with other cats and children but have never met a dog that I liked and used to chase them out of my yard.
